Inspiration from Repetition

November 2, 2010

One of the things I’ve learned in the last year is that there’s something magical about inspiration that comes from doing something over and over again. I did this in different areas throughout 2010. In May, I did A Layout a Day and it has completely changed the way I scrap, how much I scrap, and how quickly I scrap. It’s also changed my spending habits. It’s opened up amazing opportunities for me in the industry. And, most significantly, it has increased my enjoyment of the process and end result tenfold.

During October (just this last month), I decided to make Daily Art Journal Pages partly because I was so afraid of art journaling. While its impact wasn’t as powerful as the layout project, this, too, had a significant impact in my life. Now I can just sit down and make an art journal page without fear. I have a collection of tools at my disposal and a variety of ideas to start with. My fear is definitely diminished significantly.

And finally, I have been taking photos every single day for the last three years. I recently wrote a long post at shutter sisters about the advantages and gifts of the daily practice. Taking photographs every day has been a gift to me on so many different levels. I cannot recommend it enough.

Through these experiences I’ve learned again and again that sometimes the biggest key to inspiration is to just sit down every single day and create.
