Welcome to Weekly Gratitude

December 15, 2009

Do you ever come across something and have it resonate strongly within you? So much so, you are surprised that you’ve never thought of the idea on your own because it makes so much sense to every fiber in your being? This is how we felt when we read about The Gratitude Project started by Brenda Arnall. We were so enthralled with the idea of counting our blessings, weekly, we decided we wanted to run a blog dedicated to this project for 2010 in the hopes we could inspire others to count their blessings along side us all year long.

It’s so easy to get caught up in the day to day routines of our lives and not think about the things for which we are grateful until the holiday time. Imagine spending every week in 2010 seeking out things to be grateful for. Imagine how that could start to change our mindsets. Imagine living a life filled with gratitude, purpose and appreciation. How we think is a very powerful tool. This project has the power to change how we think each and every day. It’s a one year project, that can change how we think and live for the rest of our days.

What is Weekly Gratitude?

The idea for the project is simple. For 52 weeks, count your blessings and document them once each week. How you choose to document them is up to you. It can be a blog post, a photograph, an art journal page, a journal page, a scrapbook page, etc. It all comes down to being doable for you and your life. We will talk more about formats next week when we share ours, but for now, the idea, if you are reading this and interested, is to simply start the thinking process around your format.

All you have to do this week is think about this idea and see how it feels. Do you like the idea of practicing gratitude weekly? Can you commit to it? Don’t worry about the project/structure so much.

If you’re in, leave us a comment so we know.

In the next few weeks, we’ll share our process, our ideas, and some reasons why weekly gratitude can be a powerful exercise. We’ll also point you towards some communities where you can post your weekly art, if you choose to make art.

So, when you’re drinking your morning coffee, think about this idea and let us know if it excites you as much as it did us.

Stay tuned.

Karen and Lori

In so in. Thanks for this so much – just want to say that straight off.

I’m doing a P365 this year with the theme of everyday life. I have already decided my theme for next year will be gratitude. I’m VERY interested to see your ideas and formats for doing it. I was just going to sprinkle gratitude POTD’s throughout 2010 like I did the ‘everyday’ POTD 2009. I’m very open to new ideas and can’t wait.
    Bye

I had never thought of developing a project like this one, but it seems to be exactly what I need at the moment. We tend to complain a lot in our dayly life, and forget to thank the little things that we won every day. I’ll start thinking about how my project could be structured in order to join you in 2010. Thanks a lot for leading us in this grateful way.

I’m interested. For the last two years I’ve been keeping a gratitude journal which I do every night before I do my other journal. I started listing five things, now I usually get a page worth. Last year on my birthday it was Day 500 doing that for me – kind of special to think that 500 days before my birthday I would have started something like this.

I’m definitely intrigued, but need some ideas on how this would work. Committing is not a problem – I did 365 successfully this year, so after doing daily, weekly will be a piece of cake. And I like the idea of continuing the thought process that began of seeing the stuff we live for every day… can’t wait to see more of your vision here.

I found you on my friend Lee’s blog – this sounds like a wonderful idea – your 4 x 6 template is great – what a nice book this would make at the end of the year. Thanks for this!!
